Mets 6, Pirates 0: Ruben Tejada had four hits and Jeremy Hefner pitched seven sizzling innings as host New York eliminated Pittsburgh from playoff contention.

David Wright added two hits to become the franchise leader with 1,420 hits as New York finished with 14 overall while winning for the fifth time in six games.

Hefner (3-7) struck out seven and allowed just three hits and one walk while winning for the first time since Aug. 4. Pittsburgh fell three games below .500 and has dropped 32 of 45 contests since being 16 games over the break-even mark.

New York scored four runs in the third inning against Jeff Locke (0-3) to take control. Scott Hairston’s run-scoring double made it 3-0 and Kelly Shoppach capped the uprising with a run-scoring single.

Tejada added run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth innings as part of his fifth four-hit game of the season. Locke allowed five runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ed Kranepool (1962-79) held the previous New York record of 1,418 career hits. Wright is now one of four active players who lead their franchise in hits. The others are Todd Helton (Colorado), Derek Jeter (New York Yankees) and Michael Young (Texas). … Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen was hitless in four at-bats and is just 2-for-10 in the series to drop his National League-leading average to .334. … Mets reliever Robert Carson was diagnosed with a triceps strain and is unlikely to pitch again this season.
