Marlins 8, Nationals 0: Ricky Nolasco tossed his second straight shutout against host Washington and drove in a pair of runs as Miami captured the rubber game of the three-game series.

Nolasco (12-12) was brilliant en route to his third complete game of the season, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out six. The right-hander, who has yielded one earned run in 25 innings over his last three starts, pitched a five-hit shutout against the Nationals on Aug. 28.

Washington's lead over Atlanta in the National League East was reduced to 5 1/2 games as the Braves topped the New York Mets in extra innings Sunday.

Nolasco helped himself at the plate in the second inning, following Rob Brantly's RBI single with a two-run double for a 3-0 lead. Miami added a pair of runs in the fourth on back-to-back, two-out RBI hits by Bryan Petersen and Justin Ruggiano.

Donovan Solano lifted a sacrifice fly an inning later and Giancarlo Stanton led off the seventh by blasting reliever Christian Garcia's first pitch of the game over the wall in left for his 33rd homer. Carlos Lee became the seventh player in the lineup to drive in a run with an RBI single in the eighth.

Edwin Jackson (9-10) fell to 0-3 against the Marlins this season as he surrendered six runs and nine hits in just 4 2/3 innings.

Chad Tracy's eighth-inning double was the only extra-base hit by Washington, which completed an 8-3 homestand.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Solano is hitting .360 (31-for-86) in his last 22 games. He has recorded at least one hit in 20 of those contests and has scored 13 runs in that span. ... Washington LHP Sean Burnett, who has a sore elbow, reported no problems after playing catch on Saturday and was slated to do so again Sunday. Barring any issues, Burnett will throw a bullpen session on Monday.
