Blue Jays 8, Mariners 3: Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run blast for his 40th homer of the season as host Toronto salvaged the finale of a three-game series with Seattle.

Encarnacion’s homer into the second deck of the left-center field seats was his sixth in 12 games and capped a five-run fourth inning against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez (13-8), who lost his third straight start.

Adam Lind smashed a two-run homer in the first and Brett Lawrie delivered a two-run single in the fifth for Toronto, which torched Hernandez for seven runs and 10 hits in four innings. Blue Jays catcher Jeff Mathis went 4-for-4 for his third career four-hit outing.

Henderson Alvarez (9-12) allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings to pick up his second consecutive victory. Brad Lincoln pitched a scoreless eighth and Aaron Loup worked the ninth.

Carlos Peguero had a two-run double and Dustin Ackley homered for Seattle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Encarnacion is the eighth player in Blue Jays to history to hit 40 homers in a season. He raised his RBI count to 102. … Hernandez has allowed 16 runs and 30 hits in 16 innings during his three-game slide. … Blue Jays OF Rajai Davis stole his 43rd base, second in the majors behind Los Angeles Angels rookie Mike Trout (45).
