Twins 4, Blue Jays 3: Scott Diamond gave up five hits in seven scoreless innings as Minnesota salvaged a split of the four-game series at Target Field.

Ryan Doumit finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Twins. The worst hitting team in the American League finished with 10 hits, handing Toronto starter Ricky Romero his first loss of the season.

Diamond, who beat the Angels in his first start of the season Tuesday, was in total control against Toronto. The left-hander did not walk a hitter and struck out four, throwing 63 of his 101 pitches for strikes.

In 14 innings across two starts, Diamond has surrendered just nine hits, one walk and no runs with 10 strikeouts.

Toronto rallied against Minnesota’s bullpen in the eighth, scoring three times. Yunel Escobar singled home a run. Eric Thames drove in a run on a groundout. Escobar scored on a wild pitch to bring the Blue Jays within 4-3.

Brian Dozier gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead on his first homer of the season, a solo homer in the third off Romero (4-1). The Twins scored three times in the fifth. Josh Willingham drew a bases-loaded walk off Romero, scoring Denard Span.

Doumit followed with a single to center, scoring Dozier and Joe Mauer to put the Twins’ lead to 4-0.

Romero (4-1) struggled with command, walking five and allowing nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. Edwin Encarnacion went 3-for-4 for the Blue Jays.

Matt Capps pitched the ninth for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The victory gives the Twins 10 victories on the season. Minnesota is the last team in baseball to reach double-digits in victories. … Toronto’s Jose Bautista finished 1-for-4, moving his average to .198.
