Athletics 4, Rays 3 (12): Jonny Gomes hit a home run off Joel Peralta in the top of the 12th inning to help Oakland snap Tampa Bay's 10-game home winning streak.

The American League East-leading Rays were denied in their bid to become the first team in the majors to win 20 games.

Oakland right fielder Josh Reddick made a pair of nice running catches with a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

Struggling Tampa Bay reliever Brandon Gomes walked two and hit a batter to load the bases with one out in the 10th, but he came back to strike out Brandon Inge and got Jemile Weeks to ground out to first to get out of the jam.

The Rays had a runner at third with one out in the 11th but were unable to score against Brian Fuentes (2-0), who pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Grant Balfour worked around a leadoff single in the 12th for his seventh save.

Reddick hit a solo home run in the first and added an RBI single in the fourth to help the A's build a 3-1 lead.

Tampa Bay's three runs came on solo homers from Elliot Johnson in the third, Ben Zobrist in the fourth and Carlos Pena in the fifth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gomes' home run ended a streak of 11 consecutive scoreless outings for Peralta, who had not allowed a run since April 13 at Boston. … Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson lasted only 3 2/3 innings, the shortest start of his career. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.
