Jon Lester won for the first time since June 27 and Adrian Gonzalez had a two-run homer and four RBIs as visiting Boston scored eight runs in the fifth inning to salvage a split of the four-game series.

Lester (6-10), who was 0-5 in his last seven starts, struck out a season-high 12 and allowed one run and three hits in six innings as the Red Sox won for the fourth time in their last 12 games.

Carl Crawford had three doubles and three RBIs and Jacoby Ellsbury added two hits, including a two-run double in the fifth when the Red Sox matched a season high for runs in an inning and sent 14 men to the plate. Gonzalez capped the frame with a two-run double to right-center.

The Red Sox had seven doubles among their 16 hits.

Rookie Corey Kluber (0-1) allowed six runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings in his third career start as the Indians lost for the 13th time in their last 16 games.

Gonzalez's 13th homer of the season and Dustin Pedroia's RBI double came in the first inning. Crawford's two-run double in the second gave Boston a 5-0 lead.

The Red Sox collected six hits and four walks in the fifth inning, including an RBI double by Crawford and run-scoring singles by Cody Ross and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Reliever Josh Tomlin retired the last two batters in the fourth before allowing seven runs, five hits and two walks in the fifth.

Every Red Sox starter had at least one hit except Danny Valencia, who hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Pedroia and Mike Aviles, the only starter without an RBI, scored three runs apiece.
