Red Sox 7, Tigers 3: Dustin Pedroia had three RBIs - including the go-ahead two-run homer - as host Boston won its third straight to move a game above .500.

Clay Buchholz (9-3) allowed three runs – two earned – and five hits in eight innings to win for the first time in four starts since coming off the disabled list. The Red Sox have won three consecutive games for the first time since reeling off five straight from June 16-21.

Carl Crawford walked to lead off the sixth inning before Pedroia belted a high fastball from Max Scherzer (10-6) into the first row of seats above the Green Monster to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead.

Detroit’s Alex Avila smacked an RBI double in the seventh but Boston got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Kelly Shoppach tripled and scored on a single by Jacoby Ellsbury.

Rookie Will Middlebrooks gave the Red Sox a four-run lead with a two-run homer off Phil Coke in the eighth.

Detroit, which has lost five of seven games, jumped out to a quick lead when Austin Jackson homered to center on the second pitch of the game.

Boston went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the inning as Crawford delivered a run-scoring triple and scored on an infield out by Pedroia.

Detroit tied the game in the third on Miguel Cabrera’s single. The Tigers loaded the bases before Buchholz induced Delmon Young to hit into an inning-ending double play.

Scherzer allowed five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston has won eight of the last nine meetings against Detroit at Fenway Park … Scherzer had won four straight decisions since losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 23 … Middlebrooks struck out in all three at-bats against Scherzer before the eighth-inning homer extended his hitting streak to seven games … Detroit SS Jhonny Peralta was hitless in four at-bats and is just 2-for-25 over his last seven games.
