Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 3: Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-3, driving in two runs as host Toronto picked up its first home win of the 2012 season.

The Blue Jays, a night after collapsing in the ninth inning of their home opener, appeased the Rogers Centre crowd with their fourth win in their last six meetings with the Red Sox, who fall to 1-4 to start the year.

Encarnacion opened scoring with an RBI single, which was bobbled by Boston shortstop Nick Punto, in the bottom of the first. He added the dagger in the seventh inning, putting the Jays ahead 7-1 with a massive solo shot to left field.

Encarnacion also sparked a three-run sixth inning with a leadoff walk and a stolen base that eventually led to a bases-loaded, two-run single from J.P. Arencibia. The Blue Jays would push another run across on a sacrifice fly from Colby Rasmus.

Adam Lind and Brett Lawrie each had an RBI single in the third.

Kyle Drabek (1-0) put past woes against the Red Sox behind him, giving up only one run on three hits through 5 1/3 innings.

Boston got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury on a sacrifice fly from Adrian Gonzalez.

The Red Sox threatened in the ninth, loading the bases and scoring two runs on a two-out ground-rule double from Gonzalez down the right-field line.

Reliever-turned-starter Daniel Bard (0-1) gave up five runs on eight hits through five innings of work. Boston’s bullpen, which has struggled, allowed a collective two runs on three hits in three innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Toronto closer Sergio Santos will be away from the team due to the birth of his third child … Jose Bautista is 1-for-16 the last four games … Kevin Youkilis, who started 0-for-12, picked up his first hit of the season on a double to right.
