Blue Jays 9, Orioles 5: J.P. Arencibia hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as visiting Toronto snapped a seven-game losing streak to earn a split of a doubleheader against Baltimore.

Edwin Encarnacion added his 41st blast and Moises Sierra homered and scored three times for the Blue Jays, who dropped the opener 4-1. The Orioles dropped 1 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.

Toronto left-hander Ricky Romero (9-14) lasted five innings to get the victory and snap a 13-game losing streak. He was staked to a quick lead in the first when Encarnacion came up with one on and sent an 0-1 pitch the opposite way to right-center. Wei-Yin Chen (12-10) yielded two more runs in the second and Baltimore never got the lead back en route to just its second loss in the last nine games.

The Orioles chipped away and cut it to 5-4 in the sixth on J.J. Hardy’s single. They had the bases loaded and one out when Chris Davis flied out to left. Taylor Teagarden tried to tag up from third but Anthony Gose unleashed a perfect throw to cut him down at the plate and end the inning.

The Blue Jays put the game away in the top of the seventh, loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. Jake Arrieta got the next two batters but Arencibia followed and belted a line drive in the front row in left field for his 17th homer and a 9-4 cushion.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Baltimore loaded the bases again in the ninth but only managed one run as Mark Reynolds grounded into a double play and Manny Machado struck out. … Toronto INF Omar Vizquel recorded a pair of hits, tying Mel Ott for 40th place on the all-time list with 2,876. … Arencibia entered the game mired in a 1-for-30 slump.
