Orioles 8, Yankees 3: Mark Reynolds homered twice for the second time in the series and Nick Markakis ripped a two-run single as visiting Baltimore took two of three from New York.

Matt Wieters added an RBI single and veteran Randy Wolf (1-0) pitched 3 1/3 solid innings in relief as the Orioles moved within two games of the American League East-leading Yankees. Baltimore remained 1 1/2 games ahead of Tampa Bay in the race for the second wild card as the Rays cruised to a 9-4 triumph over Toronto on Sunday.

After leading off the fifth inning with a towering shot, Reynolds crushed a curveball from Phil Hughes (13-12) deep into the seats in left field for a three-run homer. Reynolds, who went 3-for-5, is 12-for-39 against the Yankees this season.

The second blast - Reynolds' 16th - spelled the end for Hughes, who saw his six-game home winning streak come to an end after permitting five runs on eight hits in six innings.

After starter Chris Tillman departed due to elbow stiffness, Wolf made the most of his first appearance with the Orioles. Released by Milwaukee last month, Wolf allowed one run on three hits to pick up the win.

Chris Dickerson belted a two-run homer and came around to score on Nick Swisher's RBI single for the Yankees. Dickerson was playing in place of center fielder Curtis Granderson, who is dealing with tendinitis in his right hamstring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said there is a "good chance" that 3B Alex Rodriguez returns to the club to play in Monday's series opener versus Tampa Bay. Rodriguez has been sidelined since July 24 with a broken hand. ... Twenty-two of Hughes' 32 allowed homers have been solo shots. ... Baltimore will travel to Toronto to begin a three-game series on Monday.
