Orioles 8, Red Sox 6 (10): Ronny Paulino's run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning lifted visiting Baltimore to victory in the opener of a three-game series with division-rival Boston.

Moments after Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a dramatic game-tying home run in the ninth inning, the Orioles went back in front for good off reliever Alfredo Aceves (0-3). Mark Reynolds led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on Steven Pearce's sacrifice bunt and scored on Paulino's slow roller just past the second-base bag.

Ryan Flaherty and Endy Chavez followed with singles to bring home Paulino.

Jim Johnson (1-0) earned the win despite blowing his first save of the season, snapping a streak of 25 straight conversions dating back to 2011.

Aceves was tagged for two runs on three hits over two innings.

With the Red Sox one strike from defeat in the ninth, Saltalamacchia drilled a Johnson pitch toward the top of the Green Monster. The ball deflected off a fan's outstretched hat and caromed back onto the field.

Umpires originally ruled it a home run, and an official review upheld the decision.

Chavez finished with three hits and two runs scored while Pearce added a pair of RBIs as Baltimore won for just the fourth time in 14 games.

Mike Aviles had three hits to pace the Red Sox.

Boston starter Jon Lester - who came in with a career mark of 14-0 against the Orioles - went six-plus innings and was charged with four runs (two earned) on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five.

Baltimore counterpart Jason Hammel labored through five innings, charged with two runs (one earned) on five hits. He walked three and struck out seven while throwing 106 pitches.

GAME NOTEBOOK
: Lester is the first Boston pitcher to hold a 14-decision winning streak against an opponent since Tom Brewer reeled off 14 victories in a row against the Philadelphia/Kansas City Athletics from July 2, 1954-July 24, 1957. ...
