Kansas City had its opportunities to crack the right-hander, but Jeff Francoeur was thrown out at the plate by Baltimore second baseman Robert Andino in the second inning and the visitors stranded two runners in scoring position in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Baltimore busted the game open with five runs in the fifth against Bruce Chen (3-5). J.J. Hardy doubled in a pair of runs and scored on an RBI double by Nick Markakis to make it 4-0. Adam Jones and Chris Davis each followed with an RBI single.

Davis added a two-run homer in the seventh for the Orioles. Jones drove in the first run of the night with a second-inning sacrifice fly.

Francoeur homered in the eighth inning to put Kansas City on the board.

Chen was charged with six runs on seven hits in four-plus innings.
