Howie Kendrick homered twice and had four RBIs and the Los Angeles Angels remained three games out of first place with a 6-3 victory over the host Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.

Kendrick hit two-run homers in the third and ninth innings, and the Angels turned four double plays to win in Oakland for only the second time in eight games this season while staying within range of the Texas Rangers in the American League West with 14 games remaining.

It was the fourth career multi-homer game for Kendrick, who has 18 homers this season.

The Angels took a 4-3 lead in the seventh when Erick Aybar beat the throw home by Oakland shortstop Cliff Pennington on Maicer Iztruis’ infield grounder against Fautino De Los Santos (2-2).

Hisanori Takahashi (4-3) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and Jordan Walden notched his 30th save for Los Angeles.

Kendrick’s first homer gave the Angels a 3-0 lead. Oakland scored twice in the bottom half on a run-scoring double by Jemile Weeks and a bases-loaded walk by Josh Willingham, and tied the game in the fifth on Willingham’s bloop single to right.

Angels starter Jerome Williams gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings, and Oakland’s Guillermo Moscoso allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings.
