Scott Rolen drove in three runs, and Paul Janish added three hits and two RBIs as the host Cincinnati Reds stayed perfect by crushing the Houston Astros 12-4 on Wednesday.

Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce and Joey Votto each added two hits and an RBI for the Reds, who have scored 43 runs en route to their 5-0 start.

It actually looked as though Cincinnati might lose its first game when the Astros got to Edinson Volquez for four runs in the first as the righthander had some trouble getting settled. But the Reds got a run back on Janish’s RBI single in the second and took control with a five-run third.

Rolen sparked the rally with a two-run double off Nelson Figueroa (0-1) and scored two batters later on Figueroa’s throwing error. Bruce stole third and scored on a throwing error by catcher J.R. Towles and Janish capped the inning with his second RBI single.

Cincinnati put it away with four more runs in the sixth.

Volquez (1-0) settled down after the first and struck out eight and walked five in five innings.
