Roy Halladay bounced back from his heat-induced loss earlier in the week with eight strong innings to lead the host Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Raul Ibanez and Carlos Ruiz each drove in a pair for the Phillies, who have won five straight overall and will attempt to sweep the four-game series on Monday afternoon.

Halladay (12-4) was forced out of his start on Monday at Chicago due to a heat-related illness after just four innings. The short start marked the first time in 63 road outings that he had failed to go at least six innings.

The reigning Cy Young Award winner made it up to his bullpen on Sunday, throwing 116 pitches while allowing three runs - two earned - and eight hits.

Antonio Bastardo worked the ninth for his eighth save.

Philadelphia got to Tim Stauffer (6-7) in the first, grabbing a pair of runs on RBI hits by Ibanez and Shane Victorino. The Phillies would add three more in the third to give Halladay some breathing room.

Cameron Maybin went 2-for-3 for San Diego to improve to 14-for-26 (.538) over his last six games.
