Ryan Howard launched a homer to lead off the five-run uprising in the seventh for Philadelphia, which has won four in a row and 18 of its last 26.

The offensive outburst made a winner out of rookie Michael Stutes (5-1), who surrendered one run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings.

After San Diego scratched for a pair of runs off Antonio Bastardo in the eighth inning, Ryan Madson retired the side in the ninth for his 17th save in 18 opportunities this season.

Entering the game having permitted just one homer this season, Chad Qualls (4-5) gave up three in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.

Cameron Maybin homered and drove in three, Chase Headley also went deep and rookie Logan Forsythe scored twice for San Diego, which has dropped two in a row.
