Jayson Werth hit a double and a home run against his former team and Livan Hernandez pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, as Washington stopped Philadelphia 7-4 Tuesday at Nationals Park.

Werth, the former right fielder for the Phillies who signed with the Nats as a free agent in the off-season, was 2-for-3 with a walk, scored two runs and hit his second homer of the season in the fifth inning off losing pitcher Joe Blanton (0-1).

Hernandez (1-1) scattered seven hits, struck out six and allowed only one run - Ryan Howard’s third homer in the second inning. Reliever Sean Burnett allowed a run in the ninth, but retired Jimmy Rollins on a lineout to end the game and earn his third save.

The Nationals touched Blanton for seven hits and five runs in six innings, including three in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Wilson Ramos, a single by Jerry Hairston Jr. and a squeeze bunt by Hernandez.
