Dillon Gee pitched a career-best 7 2/3 innings and outdueled Livan Hernandez as New York shut out Washington for the second straight game, 1-0, Thursday at Citi Field.

Gee (3-0) allowed only two hits and three walks and struck out three to earn his first victory since April 23. Tim Byrdak entered with two runners on in the eighth and enticed Michael Morse to ground into a fielder's choice on his first pitch, and Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth and earned his 14th save.

The Mets got the benefit of a blown call to preserve the win in the ninth. After a double by Laynce Nix, Jayson Werth smashed a drive to third base that was snared by Justin Turner. Replays showed Turner's throw pulled first baseman Daniel Murphy off the bag, but umpire Phil Cuzzi called him out, short-circuiting the possible rally.

The Mets' only run was produced on a two-out single by Turner, who drove in two runs in the series opener Wednesday. Turner dropped his hit in front of center fielder Roger Bernadina and drove in Josh Thole in the fourth inning for the game's only run.

The hard-luck loser was Hernandez (3-6), who suffered his second consecutive 1-0 loss. Hernandez allowed only one run, seven hits and struck out seven in seven innings.
