Matt Kemp hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 12th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-3 win over the visiting Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon.
Kemp crushed an 0-2 offering from Atlanta reliever Cristhian Martinez (0-1) over the center-field wall to give Los Angeles its fourth win in five games. Matt Guerrier (1-0) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
The extra-innings heroics followed a turbulent ninth inning. Los Angeles led 2-1 and was only one out from victory when Atlanta rallied, loading the bases to set up David Ross’ two-run single that put the Braves ahead 3-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Los Angeles leadoff hitter Jamey Carroll reached base and scored on Casey Blake’s RBI single to send the game into extra innings.
Starters Clayton Kershaw and Jair Jurrjens turned in solid performances. Kershaw lasted 8 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Atlanta’s Jurrjens pitched six innings, yielding one run on seven hits.
Juan Uribe and Blake hit solo homers for the Dodgers and Freddie Freeman had a solo shot for the Braves.
