Rookie reliever Aaron Crow balked home the winning run with two out in the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox recorded a 5-4 home victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Facing Adam Dunn with runners on second and third in a tie game, Crow (2-2) capped a forgettable night by balking in A.J. Pierzynski from third base with the winning run.

Crow had yielded a two-run homer to Dunn in the eighth to give the White Sox a brief 4-3 lead. The 24-year-old hurler, who was named to the All-Star team on Sunday, allowed three runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Ramon Castro added a solo shot for Chicago, which has won five of its last six games.

The unlikely ending made a winner out of Sergio Santos (3-3), who allowed one run on three hits in the ninth inning.

Rookie Eric Hosmer led off the ninth with a disputed homer, Jeff Francoeur had a two-run shot and Billy Butler added an RBI single as Kansas City fell for the sixth time in seven outings.

Hosmer's towering shot was originally called in play by the second base umpire, but was ruled a home run upon video review.
