Casper Wells homered for the second straight day and Charlie Furbush pitched seven strong innings as the Seattle Mariners denied Tim Wakefield his 200th career victory Sunday with a 5-3 triumph over the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Mike Carp extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single for Seattle, which has won five of its last six at home.

Wakefield (6-5) failed for the fourth straight time to become the 108th pitcher in major-league history to reach the 200-win plateau. The 45-year old knuckleballer did toss his 33rd career complete game and first since 2009, allowing five runs and nine hits over eight innings.

Carp capped a three-run first with his single and Wells gave the Mariners a 5-1 lead with a leadoff blast in the sixth. It was his seventh homer of the season and third with Seattle.

Acquired with Wells from Detroit on July 30, Furbush (3-4) yielded one run and four hits in improving to 2-1 since the trade. Brandon League struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 29th save in 33 opportunities.

Kevin Youkilis returned after missing two games with a sore back and belted a two-run homer for Boston, which has lost three of four on the road.
