The Boston Red Sox added another insult to a crippling New York Yankees’ injury with an 8-3 win early Friday morning to complete their second straight sweep in the Bronx.

New York could have used setup man Joba Chamberlain after a 3 1/2-hour rain delay to prevent the downpour of Red Sox runs that improved Boston’s record to 8-1 against its heated rival. Chamberlain, who led the American League with 12 holds, is likely out for the season after it was discovered he tore a ligament in his throwing elbow.

Boston, meanwhile, tore into CC Sabathia for a seven-run seventh inning. Jacoby Ellsbury drove in the go-ahead run and David Ortiz added to the damage, driving in a pair of runs for the third straight game.

They picked up the slack for Dustin Pedroia, who is set to rejoin the team Friday in Toronto after exiting earlier in the series with what turned out to be a bruised kneecap.

Sabathia (7-4) was charged with six earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Josh Beckett improved to 3-0 against the Yankees this season, besting Sabathia in every matchup. Beckett (5-2) saw his streak of 14 straight scoreless innings against New York snapped by Curtis Granderson’s two-run homer in the first, but those were the only runs allowed in seven strong innings. He gave up four hits and struck out six.
