Phil Humber pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, Alexei Ramirez drove in three runs and the visiting Chicago White Sox accomplished something they hadn’t done in 52 years with a wild 10-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Light-hitting Juan Pierre drove in two runs and five other players had an RBI for Chicago, which has won six straight in Boston for the first time since a seven-game streak from July 1958 to May 1959. The White Sox have also won 12 of the last 14 meetings overall.

Jason Varitek and David Ortiz homered for the Red Sox, who nearly rallied from a 10-1 deficit by scoring six times in the final two innings. Boston's comeback fell short, however, leading to its third straight loss.

The Red Sox were held in check for most of the game by Humber (4-3), who made a strong case to keep his job after the White Sox return to the customary five-man rotation in June. He won for the first time in three starts by allowing two runs and nine hits in 7 2/3 innings.

The White Sox pounded spot starter Alfredo Aceves (2-1), a longtime reliever who had won 12 straight decisions. He allowed eight runs – six earned – in five innings en route to his first loss since October 2009.

Chicago, which entered the series having lost three straight, scored four times in the second and added four more in the sixth for a 10-1 lead.
