Adalberto Mendez allowed one hit through six innings in his major league debut and Mike Stanton homered as the Florida Marlins blanked the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1, on Monday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Chad Tracy added a solo blast and Dan Uggla drove in three runs for the Marlins, who have won five of six.

Mendez (1-0) struck out six and walked two in six scoreless frames to pick up the win. The 28-year-old right-hander was not one of Florida’s top prospects, going 5-4 with a 4.14 ERA in 28 games - nine starts - for Triple-A New Orleans this season, but pounded the strike zone against Philadelphia and managed to keep the middle of the lineup out of the action.

The Phillies also debuted a rookie in the contest, giving Vance Worley (0-1) his first major league start. The 22-year-old was charged with two runs on six hits while striking out five in five innings.

Florida grabbed a run in the first on Uggla’s RBI single and added one more in the second with Tracy’s first homer of the season. Stanton provided some insurance in the eighth with his 16th homer of the season and Uggla put it away with a two-run double in the ninth.
