Bengie Molina went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 9-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.
Molina hit a two-run homer in the eighth, doubled in a run in the third and had an RBI-single in the first as the Giants improved to 6-1 on the season.
Mark DeRosa drove in two runs with a first-inning single and Pablo Sandoval went 3-for-4 as San Francisco had 12 hits against four Pittsburgh pitchers.
Barry Zito (2-0) pitched six innings and gave up three runs and five hits for the Giants. Zito was removed after allowing the first two Pittsburgh batters to reach in the seventh.
Scheduled Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf was scratched due to back spasms and the Pirates recalled lefthander Brian Burres from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace him. Burres gave up six runs and eight hits in four innings.
Aki Iwamura drove in two of Pittsburgh’s three runs with a fifth-inning double and a seventh-inning single.
