Randy Wolf outdueled Adam Wainwright and Lorenzo Cain drove in a pair of runs as the Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of a two-game series with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.

Alcides Escobar added a sacrifice fly and Prince Fielder chipped in two hits for the Brewers, who have won four of six.

Wolf (10-9) dominated throughout, allowing one run and three hits while walking one and striking out four in 8 1/3 innings. The veteran left-hander, who has earned the win in each of his last three starts, came within two outs of his first complete game since September 3, 2008, when he was with the Houston Astros.

John Axford allowed two runs to score in the ninth - one inherited - and left the bases loaded before Trevor Hoffman came on to strike out Brendan Ryan for the final out and his seventh save.

Wainwright (17-7), who entered the game having allowed one or no runs in seven of his last eight starts, matched Wolf until the fifth when Cain led off with a double, stole third base and came in to score on George Kottaras’ infield hit.

Cain was in the middle of a rally again in the seventh when he drove in a run with a triple and scored on Escobar’s sacrifice fly.

Matt Holliday drove in a run for St. Louis, which has dropped four straight.
