Matt Cain carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and Freddy Sanchez hit a two-run homer as the San Francisco Giants rolled to a 4-2 triumph over the Colorado Rockies.

Cody Ross also homered for the Giants, who have won 11 of their last 15 road games.

Cain (13-10) stymied Colorado for seven innings and was four outs away from becoming the sixth San Francisco Giant to toss a no-hitter before Jay Payton legged out a grounder to shortstop for an infield single. Cain had his shutout spoiled two batters later as pinch-hitter Melvin Mora swatted a two-run homer to draw the Rockies within 4-2.

Cain went on to post his fourth straight victory, allowing two runs and three hits in tossing his fourth complete game of the season and 12th of his career. The right-hander walked one and struck out seven to improve to 3-0 in four starts against Colorado this year.

Sanchez gave Cain all the support he needed in the first inning, belting his seventh home run of the season after Ross drew a leadoff walk from Jorge De La Rosa. Pat Burrell made it 3-0 two frames later with a sacrifice fly.

Ross launched a solo shot, his 14th, off Matt Reynolds in the seventh to complete the scoring.

De La Rosa (8-6) lasted six innings, allowing three runs and four hits. The left-hander, who walked five and struck out four, lost for the second straight time after winning four in a row.
