Jeff Francis threw seven shutout innings and made use of a six-run third inning as the Colorado Rockies dumped the Florida Marlins 10-0 on Tuesday night.

Colorado only had three hits in the decisive third but still managed to put a crooked number on the scoreboard. Ian Stewart led off the inning with a single and was followed by a walk to Clint Barmes. Pitcher Jeff Francis dropped a sacrifice bunt, but Nate Robertson’s error allowed everybody to be safe.

The next batter, Dexter Fowler, was hit by a pitch and Jonathan Herrera walked to plate the first two runs. Melvin Mora broke the game open with a bases-clearing double and scored two batters later to give the Rockies a 6-0 lead.

Mora made it 8-0 in the fifth with a two-run home run and Colorado tacked on two more in the seventh.

Francis complemented the offensive outburst with perhaps his finest performance of the year in keeping the Marlins’ bats at bay. He surrendered just three hits and walked none while striking out seven to even his record at 3-3.

Robertson (6-8) was the starter for Florida and was not as fortunate. He was credited for eight runs – seven earned – in just five innings. He allowed every base runner to score, as he only surrendered six hits and two walks. Robertson struck out five.

Melvin Mora led Colorado by going 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
