Just when the San Diego Padres created their biggest lead of the season in the National League West standings, the Colorado Rockies came to visit.

Two Colorado victories later, including Tuesday’s 6-3 win at Petco Park and the standings have become tighter than a rusty lug nut.

San Diego began the week with a 4½ game lead. Now four teams are separated by just 4 ½ games. The Dodgers are now three games back, Colorado four and San Francisco 4 ½.

The Rockies built a 4-0 lead off starter Wade LeBlanc, who surrendered a solo home run to Carlos Gonzalez and was charged with two of the runs on Clint Barmes’ three-run shot off Edward Mujica in the seventh.

LeBlanc fell to 4-6 after allowing three earned in 6 1/3 innings with three walks and eight strikeouts.

San Diego closed within 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh when the Padres plated three runs, including Jerry Hairston’s fifth home run.

Jason Hammel (6-3) earned the win, but couldn’t get an out in the seventh as the Padres rallied. He finished with six-plus innings and allowed three earned on seven hits, one walk and struck out four.

The Rockies put it away with two runs in the ninth as Barmes drove in a run with a single. He finished 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs.

Colorado closer Huston Street earned his first save of the season.
