Bronson Arroyo pitched seven solid innings to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 2-1 triumph over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.
Scott Rolen had a pair of doubles and drove in a run and Laynce Nix added an RBI for Cincinnati, which won its third straight.
Arroyo (2-2) retired the first 10 batters he faced before scattering five hits. He left after surrendering a solo home run to Ronny Cedeno in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Francisco Cordero pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 11th save.
Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf (0-1), who was making his first start in a month after a stint on the disabled list, lasted only four innings and struggled with his control. He walked three batters and gave up three hits, including Nix’s double that drove in Jay Bruce in the fourth inning.
Relievers, Javier Lopez, Evan Meek Joel Hanrahan didn’t allow an earned run in their combined five innings of relief, but Rolen doubled off Meek to plate Joey Votto in the top of the eighth after the Reds’ first baseman reached on an error by third baseman Andy LaRoche to make it 2-0.
