Gallardo (12-7) threw seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six and walking three.

Coleman (1-2) gave up one run on five hits, striking out three and walking three in six innings to suffer the loss.

John Axford came on to record his 21st save of the year in the ninth.

Ryan Braun had two hits, including an RBI double that drove in Gallardo in the bottom of the fifth inning. That was the first run Milwaukee scored against Chicago this weekend.

Third baseman Casey McGee hit his 21st home run of the year in the bottom of the eighth inning to provide some insurance.

Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez came on in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter and grounded out after missing the past few games with a strained quad.

Chicago left nine runners on base and was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
