A pitching duel between starters was decided by faltering bullpens as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 Tuesday night.

Casey McGehee’s two-out single scored Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder to end a game that saw both bullpens implode in the late innings.

The game was scoreless through the first seven innings due to stellar pitching from both starting pitchers. Milwaukee’s Yovani Gallardo tossed seven shutout innings, striking out seven while giving up four hits and walking two. Chicago’s Ted Lilly was with him every step of the way, going eight innings and also yielding four hits. He gave up one run and struck out eight.

Milwaukee was the first to blink, as reliever Carlos Villanueva gave up an RBI single to Tyler Colvin in the top of the eighth to make it 1-0.

Corey Hart tied it up in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run off Lilly before Alfonso Soriano gave the Cubs the lead again in the top of the ninth with an RBI groundout off John Axford (2-1).

Chicago closer Carlos Marmol came on in the bottom of the ninth, but failed to notch his 13th save of the season. He led off the inning by hitting Rickie Weeks, who then stole second after Carlos Gomez popped out. Marmol (1-1) intentionally walked Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun hit into a fielder’s choice to advance the runners, setting the stage for McGehee’s walk-off hit.

Weeks had two of the Brewers’ five hits and was on base three times.

Colvin, Kosukue Fukudome and Starlin Castro had two hits apiece for the Cubs.
