Carlos Silva notched a career-high 11 strikeouts and the Cubs used a big fourth inning to secure a 5-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Silva allowed only two hits and walked none in seven innings as he continues his resurgent season. The win kept his record pristine at 7-0.

St. Louis starter Adam Ottovino (0-1) started out strong in his first major league start, but faltered in the fourth. Marlon Byrd singled in Alfonso Soriano to open the scoring. A triple by Mike Fontenot then another single by Starlin Castro made the lead 3-0.

Ottovino finished his day allowing four runs on five hits and six walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

Kosuke Fukudome drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to make it 4-0 and then he made it 5-0 in the eighth with a sacrifice fly.

Byrd, Fontenot and Castro all had two hits apiece for Chicago.

Matt Holliday was the only Cardinal that produced any type of offense, generating two of St. Louis’ four hits.

Albert Pujols went 0-for-3, dropping his average below .300.
