Garrett Jones and Andrew McCutchen combined for 10 hits, seven runs and seven RBIs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to their fourth straight win over the Chicago Cubs with a 10-6 victory on Friday afternoon.
Jones went 5-for-6 and hit a go-ahead three-run shot off Carlos Zambrano (1-3) in the eighth inning on the way to driving in five runs. McCutchen finished 5-for-5, including his line-drive solo homer off James Russell in the ninth.
Evan Meek (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out four and allowing two hits to earn the win.
Both starters were knocked around early as the Pirates scored three in the first against Tom Gorzelanny, who lasted five innings and allowed five runs on nine hits and four walks.
The Cubs came back with four in the bottom of the first against Brian Burres, who came in with a streak of 13 consecutive scoreless innings. Burres lasted only four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and walking two.
Chicago's Marlon Byrd hit his seventh homer, a solo shot in the fourth. Alfonso Soriano added two hits and two RBIs for the Cubs, who have lost eight of their last 10.
