Derek Lowe pitched 5 1/3 effective innings and David Ross homered as the Atlanta Braves held on for a 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Omar Infante also homered for Atlanta, which improved to 39-15 at Turner Field. The Braves lead the Philadelphia Phillies by two games in the National League East.

Melky Cabrera, Brooks Conrad and Alex Gonzalez each drove in a run for Atlanta, which avoided losing a series at home for only the second time this season.

The win was tempered by the fact that Lowe (11-9) left the game in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury. The right-hander had allowed two runs and five hits when he departed. Atlanta also had a 5-2 lead when Lowe was pulled.

Travis Ishikawa’s third homer of the season off Peter Moylan in the seventh cut the lead to 5-3, but Jonny Venters, Kyle Farnsworth and Takashi Saito held the Giants to two hits over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Filling in for Billy Wagner, Saito worked around a one-out double in the ninth for his first save of the season.

The Braves chased Giants’ starter Jonathan Sanchez (8-7) after just four innings. Ross’ two-run homer in the second put Atlanta ahead for good and Gonzalez added a sacrifice fly in the frame to make it 3-1.

Infante homered in the fourth and Conrad added an RBI single in the fifth off Todd Wellemeyer.

Sanchez allowed four runs and five hits in four innings.
