David Freese had a career-high six RBIs and Adam Wainwright picked up his fourth victory of the season as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Atlanta, 10-4, on Thursday to hand the Braves their ninth consecutive loss.

Freese went 3-for-3 and hit a three-run homer in the first inning to start the onslaught. He added a three-double in the fifth inning to help the Cardinals win their fifth consecutive game.

The Braves’ losing streak is their longest since a 10-game skid in June 2006. Atlanta is 8-14 overall and in last place in the National League East.

Wainwright (4-1) pitched six innings in his shortest outing of the season. He gave up three runs and six hits.

Freese’s bases-clearing double highlighted a four-run fifth inning. Yadier Molina followed by doubling him in and boosting the lead to 8-1.

Tyler Greene also homered for the Cardinals, while Atlanta rookie Jason Heyward hit his fifth homer of the season.

Braves starter Jair Jurrjens (0-3) left following one inning after straining his left hamstring.

St. Louis rested first baseman Albert Pujols, who had played in every inning of the Cardinals’ first 21 games.
