Chris Young hit a pair of home runs, including a solo shot leading off the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a 6-5 triumph over the struggling San Diego Padres.

John Hester went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who improved to 73-35 at home against the Padres all-time with their fifth win in seven games overall.

After Aaron Heilman (3-3) suffered his fifth blown save in 10 opportunities in the top of the ninth, Young opened the bottom half against Luke Gregerson (3-6) by depositing a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for his 19th homer of the season and second of the game.

Young had given Arizona an early edge, leading off the bottom of the first inning with a blast to right field. Three frames later, the Diamondbacks opened a 5-0 lead with a four-run rally highlighted by a wild pitch by Clayton Richard on an intentional ball four to Stephen Drew that plated Adam LaRoche.

San Diego cut into the deficit in the sixth, beginning the inning with four straight hits that included an RBI double by Ryan Ludwick and a run-scoring single by Chase Headley. Nick Hundley followed with a sacrifice fly to draw the Padres within 5-3.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, Ludwick flied out to end the threat. San Diego used the long ball to pull even against Heilman as Jerry Hairston Jr. led off the ninth with his eighth homer and Adrian Gonzalez launched a solo shot with two outs, his 22nd of the year.

Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 for the Padres, who have lost four of five overall and 14 of their last 18 at Arizona.
