Brad Hawpe blasted a grand slam as part of a six-run fourth inning that guided the Tampa Bay Rays to a 13-1 whitewash of the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Three batters after Ben Zobrist swatted a two-run double to put Tampa up 2-0, Hawpe cleared the bases with a shot to right field for his third career grand slam. It was his second homer in six games since joining the Rays after being placed on waivers by the Colorado Rockies.

Kelly Shoppach had a two-run homer and Carl Crawford added a two-run triple for the Rays, who have won three of their last four games and will capture the season series against Toronto. Tampa leads the head-to-head matchup 10-7, with their final meeting set for Sunday.

The win also moved the Rays to within a game of New York in the American League East race. The Yankees faced Texas later Saturday.

Tampa starter Wade Davis (12-9) continued his hot streak, allowing one run over seven innings to earn his seventh consecutive victory. He walked three and struck out six.

Jays counterpart Ricky Romero (12-9) was tagged for six runs in just four innings of work to lose for the first time in three starts.

Lyle Overbay provided the lone Toronto offense with a fourth-inning solo home run, his 19th of the season.
