Edwin Jackson threw the second no-hitter in Arizona history to pace the Diamondbacks to a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.
Jackson walked eight batters and threw 149 pitches in the game, with seven of his eight walks coming in the first three innings. Jackson (5-6) struck out six batters while Tampa Bay left 16 runners on base.
Adam LaRoche provided all the offense in the game with a solo homer to right field in the second inning.
It was the fourth no-hitter of the year. Oakland’s Dallas Braden threw a perfect game against the Rays earlier in the year.
Jeff Niemann (6-2) took the loss, allowing six hits and two walks in seven innings.
Jackson retired the last five batters he faced following an error by shortstop Stephen Drew. Jackson also hit a batter but got stronger as the game progressed.
The Rays loaded the bases with one out in the third inning but B.J. Upton grounded into a force play with Mark Reynolds cutting down the tying run at home.
