Josh Wilson fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle and the Seattle Mariners’ bats finally came alive in an 8-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday as Seattle ended an eight-game losing streak.

Wilson’s three-run homer in the fourth was immediately followed by a shot from Michael Saunders. The homers marked the first time Seattle has hit multiple homers in a game this season. On their nine-game homestand, the Mariners had been swept by Texas and Tampa Bay and had not scored more than three runs.

Wilson, who also tripled, and Saunders, who had an RBI single, were called up this week from Triple-A Tacoma.

Seattle’s outburst came on the same day that the Mariners fired hitting coach Alan Cockrell.

Jason Vargas (3-2) allowed four hits and one unearned run in 7 1/3 innings. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

Ervin Santana (1-3) allowed five runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Ichiro Suzuki also had three hits and stole three bases.
