Rookie Wade Davis out-dueled reigning American League Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke as the Tampa Bay Rays edged the Kansas City Royals, 1-0, on Sunday.
Evan Longoria provided all of the offense with a solo homer to left in the fourth inning for the Rays, who have won 15 of 19.
Davis struck out five and walked three while allowing three hits in seven frames. The 24-year-old has won three straight starts and lowered his ERA to 2.79.
Greinke secured his first complete game of the season in the losing effort. The right-hander yielded four hits and did not walk a batter. Greinke has yet to record a win this season despite posting a 2.27 ERA and allowing two runs or fewer in five of his six starts.
Randy Choate and Dan Wheeler combined for a scoreless eighth before handing the ball to closer Rafael Soriano, who pitched a spotless ninth for his six save.
