David Price became the American League’s first 15-game winner as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-3 Monday night.
Price (15-5) allowed two runs in five innings as Tampa Bay ended a five-game losing streak. He allowed five hits and four runs while fanning nine.
Matt Joyce homered and drove in a pair of runs. Evan Longoria had two hits and drove in one.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Gerald Laird. Tampa Bay took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the third on Joyce’s sixth homer of the year and a sacrifice fly by Ben Zobrist.
Brennan Boesch hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to trim the deficit to 4-3 but Tampa Bay got RBI singles by John Jaso and Carl Crawford in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Rafael Soriano pitched a perfect ninth for his 32nd save.
Armando Galarraga (3-5) took the loss. He surrendered four runs on five hits and walks in five innings.
