Dan Johnson blasted a walk-off homer in the 10th inning to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.

Johnson's homer, his second of the year, led off the inning against losing pitcher Scott Atchison (2-2).

Randy Choate (4-3) notched the win in relief with a scoreless 10th inning.

Neither starter figured in the decision but both were effective. Clay Buchholz allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits while fanning five over 7 1/3 innings. Matt Garza went seven innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out three.

B.J. Upton ended Buchholz's streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run at 30 2/3 innings with a home run to open the eighth inning.

Boston took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning as Adrian Beltre's sacrifice fly scored Victor Martinez, who led off the inning with a single.

The Rays tied it with an unearned run in the seventh inning as Carlos Pena scored on a bizarre sacrifice fly by Matt Joyce.

Pena reached on a fielder's choice, then went all the way to third base on an errant pickoff throw by Buchholz. Joyce then hit a fly ball into the Tampa Bay bullpen and J.D. Drew opted to make the catch instead of letting it drop foul. Drew stumbled making the catch and Pena scored easily.

Boston reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth inning on a two-out homer by Martinez, his third of the series.
