Mike Lowell's tiebreaking solo homer in the top of the eighth inning lifted the Boston Red Sox past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 Tuesday.

After Jose Bautista's major league-leading 35th home run of the season evened the score in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Red Sox responded in the next half-inning to go ahead for good.

Lowell gave the Red Sox a 6-5 lead with a shot to the seats in left center, his fourth home run of the season. Jed Lowrie extended the advantage to a pair of runs with an RBI double that brought home Ryan Kalish.

The Red Sox bullpen made the lead stand up as Boston improved to 8-2 against the Blue Jays this season.

Felix Doubront (2-2) earned the victory, allowing one run over 1 1/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth for his 29th save.

Shawn Camp (3-2) allowed both eighth-inning runs en route to his first loss since April 26, also against the Red Sox.

Boston starter Daisuke Matsuzaka surrendered four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out seven. Toronto counterpart Ricky Romero allowed five runs on eight hits over his six innings of work, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Travis Snider and Adam Lind also went deep for the Jays, who fell for just the second time in their past seven games.
