Brendan Rodgers homered and Austin Gomber worked seven strong innings as the visiting Colorado Rockies stopped the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Friday night.

Gomber (3-7) beat the Padres for the second time this year, permitting five hits and two runs with one walk and six strikeouts. Tyler Kinley pitched the eighth, and Victor Vodnik wrapped it up in the ninth for his fifth save in seven chances.

Knocking off the Padres for the sixth time in eight meetings this year, Colorado took the lead for good with a three-run rally in the top of the sixth against reliever Jeremiah Estrada (3-2). After Brenton Doyle and Ryan McMahon began the inning with walks, Rodgers beat out an infield single for his third hit.

Michael Toglia struck out but Kris Bryant picked him up by lining a two-run single to center for a 3-2 advantage. Jake Cave doubled the lead by grounding a two-out single to center to score Rodgers.

The Rockies tacked on an insurance run in the seventh via McMahon's sacrifice fly that scored Ezequiel Tovar, who singled and reached third on Doyle's single.

Colorado's comeback dealt San Diego starter Randy Vasquez a no-decision. He left with a 2-1 lead after going five innings, allowing a run on three hits and two walks while fanning four. Vasquez worked in and out of trouble for most of the night, using a pair of double plays to get out of jams.

Rodgers initiated the scoring in the second by belting his eighth homer of the year, jumping on a hanging curve and hitting it an estimated 391 feet to the seats in left-center.

The Padres used the long ball to take a one-run lead.

Manny Machado led off their half of the second by lacing a changeup from Gomber over the left-center field wall for his 17th homer and third in three games. Then Donovan Solano untied it in the fourth by cracking his fourth homer of the season, lining a first-pitch fastball to the seats in left-center.
